Introduction
From here, you may access interactive web pages about the subject indicated below, produced using Java+Javaview. You may choose one of some given pictures (or a picture of your choice in your PC) and one of 17 + 7 stamps and see the corresponding pattern/frieze. You may even create the pattern/frieze by moving the stamp around the plane.
This is an interactive web version of part of a DVD which was built with the aim of giving non-specialists an idea about how orbifold theory (W. Thurston) can be used to conclude that there are just 17 types of patterns and 7 types of friezes, different from the point of view of symmetry.
